Summative Assessment
Although I have embraced the philosophy of formative assessment, I still value summative assessment. In my practicums, I have used some of my summative assessments formatively to ensure that all students have mastered the learning outcomes before moving on.

Summative Projects
I think that the use of projects to assess learning is another good way to assess learning summatively (although I am a strong advocate for Project Based Learning). Giving projects can help to differentiate content and process for students to more fairly assess learning. Below is an example where I had students create their own experiment to better understand the scientific process. They could choose what they tested.
