PhilosophyThere are many factors that affect how I would like to teach my class. My values and morals will be tied into everyday life in the class. These values are like the trunk of a tree. It is the foundation and the tree then grows and spurts from the ground up. One of my biggest values that I think is not only transferable but also imperative to teaching is to treat everyone fairly and with respect and dignity. This quality in a teacher can gain the respect of their students which will then create a more positive learning environment.
Through my life experiences and travels I have acquired other qualities that I think are important to have as a teacher. From seeing different cultures and living conditions I have developed a sense of empathy. I feel like I can relate to people that encounter adversity. Through travels I have also found that I love diversity. Cultural acceptance is important in Canada because of our mosaic of cultures. This diversity can also extend beyond cultural and racial. This acceptance among all students can in-turn create a comfortable and safe environment which I will strive to accomplish. I hope to also be an engaging teacher. I would like to see the students interacting with each other and with me. I think that it is extremely important as a teacher to have a sense of humor and to be charismatic. If a teacher is enthusiastic about what they are teaching then it is easier for the student to learn. It is important to be mindful of my body language as well to show confidence and professionalism. Life in a classroom or life in general can be unpredictable and it is important to be flexible and spontaneous and to have some patience when things may not always go as planned. These additional attributes are the responsibility of the teacher and also contribute to the stability of the classroom. This can relate to the trunk of the tree. The trunk must be stable and solid holding up the canopy. In the end it all comes back to the students. For the students I would love a positive learning environment, a cohesive team based class, a class with no stereotyping or racism, a comfortable and safe environment, and unbiased fair treatment of everyone in the class. The students can relate to the leaves on the tree. They enable the tree to grow and develop. The all of the components of the tree are necessary for it to succeed. I hope to inspire my students and that at the end of the day they take away more than just the lesson. |

I love being active and outdoors. I play soccer throughout the year on an indoor and outdoor team. I am an avid snowboarder and love to hit the slopes when I can. I strive to make a difference in this world even if it is a small change to make the world a better place. I have been involved with humanitarian efforts since 2006 and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Travel is also an addiction of mine. I have so far been to 17 countries in my lifetime. I love experiencing new cultures and learning about different values. With travel comes my deep rooted passion for humanitarianism and luckily theses things go hand-in-hand. |
